Planned Giving

"In her later years, it was Mother’s favourite thing to do on a Thursday night- to go to the shows at The College of Piping. She came in from Freetown with a neighbour who had a daughter who was dancing. Nothing would have thrilled my mother more than to have her name associated with The College. Their ceilidhs gave her and her friends such happiness. When she passed away I made up my mind to give to The College, but not for a few more years. Then, as 1999 was drawing to a close, I decided to give more rather than less, and to give sooner, rather than later. It was important to me that Mother’s family and friends remember her in their lifetime." - Roger Burns

When you support The College of Piping, you support the preservation of a living, breathing tradition of Celtic performing arts. It’s not dusty, it’s not boring and it’s not behind a rope in a museum! We preserve the cultural heritage of our ancestors with swirling skirts and flying feet, rolling drums and thrilling pipes!

Planned giving or gift planning is designed to maximize the tax and other financial benefits to you, the donor, by enabling you to lower your tax bracket and reduce tax liability. Help us keep these art forms alive for generations to come! Ask your financial planner what option works best for you.

  • Endowment Fund creates long-term, stable funding, providing much needed long term security for The College of Piping. A maximum of 90% of yearly interest will be used as required while the principal is re-invested each year to live in perpetuity as a legacy of your contribution.
  • Bequest by a Will is an easy and effective way to help talented young people gain an education in Celtic performing arts. Wills are revocable and may be changed if life circumstances change. The donor’s estate benefits from a charitable estate tax reduction in the year the gift is made.
  • Life Insurance Policies give a donor the ability to assist The College of Piping with a substantial gift that may otherwise be beyond a donor’s ability. An insurance policy can be independent of a will and does not deplete the donor’s estate or deprive heirs. In establishing a new policy, or transferring an existing one, there are immediate charitable tax benefits to the donor if The College of Piping is made both the beneficiary and registered owner.
  • Charitable Remainder Trust is a trust fund established with cash or securities that make an annual gift of the interest derived from the principal. The principal is re-invested annually with a trust company to live in perpetuity as a legacy of the donor’s contribution.
  • Gifts In-Kind or Real Estate is a unique method of giving. For in-kind gifts, the amount of a charitable contribution is the fair market value of a property at the time of it being donated. A gift in-kind includes such things as tangible property, depreciable property and personal-use property.
In-kind gifts do not include a gift of services.

Your gift secures a vibrant artistic future for The College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts of Canada. To give a gift to The College of Piping (R.C.C 12413 8520 RR 0001), please contact us at 1-877-BAG-PIPE or info@collegeofpiping.com.

Funding Scholarships

"My wife, Debbie and I went to a College of Piping concert featuring the faculty and students. We were struck by the fact that The College has a real heart and soul. There was a very real sense of them being genuine and their authenticity came across in the performance. We felt that if The College of Piping was responsible for creating such a wonderful atmosphere for learning and performing that we should financially support them with their mission." - Doug Hall

Scholarships are offered in all disciplines to recognize excellence, encourage further study and development, and assist parents with tuition costs. We are currently seeking support for 20 Excellence Scholarships at $10,000 per scholarship (5 Bagpiping, 5 Drumming, 5 Highland Dancing and 5 Step Dancing). For more information on our existing scholarships, please click here

Scholarships can be funded in one of two ways:

  • $500 in annual support
  • One-time $10,000 contribution

The one-time $10,000 commitment ensures that $500 in annual scholarships is offered in perpetuity. The money is pooled with other endowment funds and thus, continues to appreciate. None of the principal dollars contributed to the fund can be touched and only a maximum of up to ninety per cent of the interest on the principal can be used. This ensures that at least 10% of the annual interest on the principal is rolled over and will continue to grow year after year, providing much needed long term security.

For more information about funding a scholarship, please contact us at 1-877-BAG-PIPE or info@collegeofpiping.com.
