UPEI Degree

UPEI Music Degree; Certificate in Highland Piping

The Certificate in Highland Bagpipes is designed for students who wish to specialize in the craft and artistry of Highland Bagpipe while pursuing a liberal education. The certificate is awarded upon the successful completion of eight courses in individualized instruction in Highland Bagpipes (Music 107, 108, 207, 208, 307, 308, 407, and 408) alongside the concurrent conferral of a Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Music.

Students wishing to enter the program must meet the entrance requirements for the Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Music and pass an audition in Highland Bagpipes at a level equivalent to the Senior Certificate of the Institute of Piping.

The College and UPEI are exploring future opportunities, including offering Highland Piping as an elective course for Arts students. Keep an eye on this page and the blog for updates.

Interested students should contact James MacHattie, the College’s Principal, for more information on admission requirements before contacting the University.
